High level Nigerian delegation together with the FIG President received by the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari
FIG President Rudolf Staiger was invited to Nigeria to witness the induction of 344 newly licensed surveyors. The investiture of the new colleagues was organised by SURVEYORS COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (SURCON) and the NIGERIAN INSTITUTION OF SURVEYORS (NIS) on 27 February in the Conference Centre of Abuja. In his welcome address to the new inductees Rudolf reminded them about the importance of their future task.

At the same day the President of the Republic of Nigeria his Excellency Muhammadu Buhari honoured our Nigerian colleagues and FIG with a 30-minutes reception. The honourable President of the Senat Ahmad Lawan received a delegation of Nigerian surveyors and the FIG-President the day before.
In the framework of the induction of the newly licensed surveyors the Distinguished Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan Award for “the Development of the Surveying and Geoinformatics Profession in Nigeria” was newly instituted by SURCON and conferred on Lawan. He has studied surveying and is holding a PhD in remote sensing.

In the afternoon the festive induction ceremony of 344 new registered surveyors took place. All 344 registered surveyors received their certificate. Rudolf had the honour to hand out 20 of the certificates. The first certificate was handed out by the President of the Senate to the Best Overall Candidate in the SURCON 2019 professional examinations. With him were 12 other senators of the Federal Republic.

During the stay it was made possible to pay a visit to the French Embassy. The French Embassy together with the Belgium embassy handle visa issues for the Dutch embassy, and therefore FIG President Staiger with Kabir Mansur Mohammad and Acabo C. D. Charles had a meeting with Mr. Sylvain Naulin political officer at the French Embassy in Abuja to discuss the handling of Nigerian visa applications for the FIG Working Week 2020. |
