Dear Colleagues
The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is seeking to produce a Global Land Outlook publication and platform on ecosystem restoration and land. This is a call is made to our wide membership to identify if any member wishes to represent FIG in these debates. Do contact the FIG office if you would like to discuss. |
The UNCCD secretariat and PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency invited FIG to participate in the steering committee meeting and restoration scenarios workshop in order to prepare for a 2nd edition of the Global Land Outlook (GLO).
VP Diane Dumashie attended this meeting as an observer and noted that their deliberations do cover FIG professional areas, given that land administration and sustainability are closely linked. Accordingly FIG could be a key global partner for this work.
In brief overview,
GLO2, a strategic communications product of the UNCCD, will focus on
land restoration activities as a means for accelerating progress towards
achieving the SDGs (Land Degradation Neutrality), the post-2020 global
biodiversity framework and the Paris Agreement
The 1st edition of the GLO and related working papers (including the
first PBL scenarios report) as well as GLO regional reports (2019) can
be accessed here:

Although the meetings were to be held in the Hague, for the foreseeable future theses will be conducted online.
Representatives of FIG Members can send a motivated expression of interest to Louise Friis-Hansen the latest by 29 June 2020.
