The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and related land indicators will re-shape and influence our profession profoundly in the decade to come. It is of crucial importance that FIG member organisations and surveyors are aware and prepared on how their (daily) work contributes to the achievement of the SDGs and vice versa. What is your role for the coming 10 years and how can you make the world a better place with your skills?
The vast majority of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be directly related to geospatial data and thereby the profession of surveyors- and geospatial professionals. Surveyors- and geospatial professionals can with a continuously distribution of precise and timely data support the measuring of SDG-related performance. FIG has committed to support this agenda and the accomplishment of the SDG’s.
To address the SDG’s and how FIG works with the SDG’s, the Council established a new Task Force for 2019-2022. The Task Force focusses on FIG and the Sustainable Development Goals. This Task Force is chaired by Ms. Paula Dijkstra from the Netherlands. The Taskforce has developed a FIG page dedicated to highlight FIG’s overall dedication to promote the SDG’s, how FIG in practice works with the SDG’s and relevant SDG’s materials for surveyors and geospatial professionals. The page also includes statements from the FIG President, Rudolf Staiger and statements from each Commission on their activities in practice with the SDG’s in their FIG work.

The Task Force was launched at FIG Working Week 2019 in Hanoi, Vietnam where chair of the Task Force Paula Dijkstra organised a session and meting.
