Abstract

Geospatial technologies as remote sensing plays and important role in management of fragile ecological systems. Delhi Ridge is functioning as green lung of Delhi Metropolitan city. Delhi Ridge is a continuation of the Aravalli Hills which is running from the northern to southern direction of the Delhi City. DU Campus is located on the northern Delhi Ridge, whereas the JNU Campus is located on the southern part of the Delhi Ridge. Over the recent periods, there have been sprawl of concrete jungle in both the campuses over the periods which is widely disturbing to the fragile ecological system of the Delhi Ridge’s landscape. So, there found a significant infrastructural development which caused to land use transformations over the periods. In this context, the present research try to understand the geospatial dynamics of land cover and land use changes in the DU and JNU campuses by leveraging the strengths of geospatial technologies using multiple disciplines and remote sensing. There have also been physiographic transformation due to geomorphological influencing factors over land cover and land use changes. The remote sensing multispectral spatio-temporal high-resolution satellite imagery facilitate accurate geospatial information extraction for change detection over periods. Besides this, the geospatial analysis using GIS technology which used to employ in organization, integration, analysis, and geovisualisation of geospatial results enabling multi-temporal analyses as the land cover land use mapping, quantification of transformation extents, and magnitudes of transformation in ecological systems over periods. So, the integration of geospatial technologies offers valuable insights into the complex interactions between human activities, natural processes, and land transformation dynamics in ecological fragile urban environment of Delhi Ridge.
